One of our most successful methods of raising money for our charity – and providing a huge amount of fun– has been to organise adventurous challenges and invite participants who seek sponsorship to take part.

Our programme for this year includes a fantastic canoe adventure in the beautiful wilderness area of the Hårkan river and lakes not far from Östersund. The challenge involves 5 days of travelling in open canoes, throughout which we will be self-sufficient – carrying with us all our supplies for camping, cooking and eating. Leaving the UK on 11th September and returning one week later, the total distance covered will be approximately 90 km, 50 km of which are mainly on lakes and 40 km on the river.

In terms of the canoeing, this is relatively easy and suitable for beginners. The real challenge is the unsupported nature of the trip – camping in the wilderness and cooking over open fires in true backwoods style.

The cost per person of this adventure, including flights, canoe hire and food, is £1,100. In addition, we are asking each participant to raise a minimum of £1,500 in sponsorship to support Odyssey.
