Swedish Canoe Adventure

Join us for a great Swedish Canoe Adventure on the Hårkan River

to raise funds for Odyssey in September 2019

 Sweden 1

The Swedish Canoe Adventure challenge will take place in the beautiful wilderness area of the Hårkan river and lakes not far from the Northern town of Östersund. There will be five days of travel in open canoes, and we will be self-sufficient carrying all our supplies for camping, cooking and eating with us. The total distance will be approximately 90km with the first 50km being mainly on lakes, and the last 40km on the river.

Sweden 2When? We have two back to back trips planned, the first being the 6th – 14th Sept, and the second the 13th -21st September 2019.

Who is it for? In terms of the canoeing, this is a relatively easy trip, and so is suitable for beginners. What will make it more challenging is the unsupported nature of the trip, and the fact that we will camping in the wilderness, and cooking over open fires in true back woods style, and very much looking after ourselves.

You will be outdoors 24 hrs a day, for a week, in a forest that’s further north than the Shetland Islands!!! The only heating and cooking we will have is the fires we can make.  And the only shelter is what we can carry with us and build each evening.  In terms of living think 18th Century pioneers.  In terms of clothing, be warm! Old kit you don’t mind trashing is better than new, because you’ll always have the smell of wood smoke in it forevermore!  The joy of a trip like this is learning to live simply and comfortably in the natural environment; the way folks used to live not so long ago.  It will be the simple living day to day in the North woods that will be the hub of the wheel of our journey; the canoes are just the means for us to travel through the land.

Sweden 3Fundraising and cost.

The cost of the trip is around £1,100. For those that pay the cost of the trip themselves, we ask that you raise as much as you can over and above the trip cost. Remembering that all funds raised go directly to Odyssey and are used to fund courses.

Others prefer to fundraise the whole amount. This means fundraising £1,100 to cover costs with a minimum of £1500 for Odyssey  on top (Total £2,600). Signing up for the trip early gives plenty of time to raise the necessary funds.
